QLED DRAM Error (Q-Code LED C0)

Go to solution Solved by emi100,

RAM => G.Skill TridentZ RGB 16 GB (F4-3600C15D-16GTZ)

Motherboard => ASUS Crosshair VI Hero Wi-Fi (X370)

CPU => Zen+ 2700

Thank you so much Fabio!
I found what was the problem:

-the mother couldn't boot because couldn't read the RAM memory [ QLED DRAM (yellow) with error code ( C0 ) ], so i needed to update the bios,
but the BIOS couldn't  be update because it fails.

It fails because the Asus User Manual is WRONG!!!
if you have the Wifi version of ASUS Crosshair VI Hero you HAVE TO NAME THE ROM like: C6HWIFI.CAP
After 6 tries, the last one with the right name works like a charm!
Now all is working good and smooth!

Thank you again Fabio! This post helped me to find a north in the darkest hours late night! Hope this helps to everyone who have the same problem!

I was building my new gaming/streaming PC this evening, and when I tried to boot up the RIG to see if it posts, I got a QLED DRAM (yellow) error with the Q-Code C0.  I tried looking up what the C0 Q-Code meant in the motherboard manual and online, but couldn't find an answer.  So does anyone know what the Q-Code C0 means and more importantly, what I need to do in order to resolve the issue of my motherboard not booting into the BIOS?  RAM was occupying DIMM A2 and B2.  Troubleshooting, I moved RAM the stick from A2 to B2 and vice versa, inserted both RAM sticks in A2 by themselves, cleared CMOS.  Picture of the Q-Code and QLED DRAM attached below.

RAM => G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32 GB (F4-3200C14D-32GTZR)

Motherboard => ASUS Crosshair VI Hero Wi-Fi (X370)

CPU => Zen+ 2700K

Is the ram in the QVL list from ASUS? Their boards are really annoying with their ram compatibility...

Did you buy the board brand new with the 2700X? Because X370 doesn't support the Ryzen+ chips without a BIOS update using a Ryzen 1 or A-series APU.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

I found the manuel for your board and also found the codes, I can not find C0 for the life of me. Maybe you can find something.

You most likely need an updated BIOS. The good thing is that you bought a C6H, which means you dont need a supported CPU to update the BIOS. Just extract the .rom file from the BIOS download and put that into an empty USB memory stick, and press the 'update' or 'flash' button on the rear I/O

Oh I won't ever go near MSI boards... they look shiny... but well, seen too many issues with them to chose one. And well ASUS was once known for better compatibility... And this is regarding Intel or AMD lineup boards...

I just completed the BIOS update using the flashback feature and I'm still seeing the same Q-Code :-(.

Does the indicator capable of displaying '0' when it flickers during boot? Cpuld be part of the 'pixels' failing to light up, so a 0 turned into a C

So it turns out the USB BIOS flashback was actually failing, so I didn't really update the BIOS after all.  However, I figured out the issue was I needed to have an M.2 or SATA drive connected.  When I did that, the board posted then booted into the BIOS.  Thank you for all the help!

Something I forgot to mention, and it's actually a rather important detail, is that I originally purchased the 1700X and decided to purchase the 2700X when it came out because I haven't been able to assemble my RIG up until now, so I figured, might as well buy the new one.  So I swapped out the 2700X with the 1700X on top of connecting a drive, and that's how I was able to get into BIOS and do the update.  Then I swapped the 2700X back and was able to boot into the BIOS successfully with the 2700X.

I'm assuming this is not an option for you so here's what I would recommend.  Remove your Zen+ CPU from the socket and attempt the BIOS flashback again.  The BIOS flashback feature is designed to work without a CPU in the socket, and having the Zen+ CPU connected might be interfering with the BIOS flashback functionality because it doesn't recognize the CPU as supported.  It's possible that the BIOS flashback functionality does a CPU check before it starts the update, and if the connected CPU isn't supported, it fails.

Once your Zen+ CPU has been removed from the socket, insert your USB with the C6H.CAP BIOS file in the root directory into the bottom most USB 2.0 port, then press and hold the BIOS flashback button until it starts flashing.  The button should continue to flash while the BIOS is updating, then turn off completely once it has completed; approximately 5 to 10 minutes.  If the BIOS flashback button flashes 3 times then remains lit, the update failed.  I know you probably know this already but I figured I'd explain how to do it for someone who doesn't know how.

I REALLY REALLY hope that works for you emi100!  I know how frustrating it is to have to stop in the middle of a build to troubleshoot an issue, then have to wait even longer because you weren't able to find an answer online, and now you're waiting for someone to help you directly via a forum post.

That's a pretty big oversight on ASUS's part.  Knowing that would have saved me a whole lot of trouble.  Thank YOU for the insight, Emi, and I'm happy you were able to get your RIG up and running!

  • 5 months later...

is it ok to reply to an old thread here just to say 'thank you'?  y'all saved me on this in the middle of the night a couple days ago.

I spent hours trying to get my BIOS updated only to figure out later that i was using the .cap file for the non-wifi crosshair hero board, but this post is what clued me in to the fact that i had to be doing something wrong because the light on my BIOS flashback button would flash 6 to 9 times and then the light would stay on forever and turn off when tried to turn on the board.

Also not sure if an NTFS formatted USB drive would work but the first USB drive (that i had copied the wrong .cap file to) was NTFS and i later formatted it to FAT32 just in case that was the problem.

It's extremely annoying that this procedure (and error C0) is not explained adequately in Asus' manual that comes with the board.  I've built my main systems with Asus boards since 2003 and this is the first time i've been disappointed with their documentation, especially bad when it means the cpu + mobo bundle you just bought won't even pass POST.  I kinda hope they see more product returns from people who don't have a working system to fall back to in order to research the issue on the internet because the 2 US phone numbers listed in the back of the manual told me that they do not exist when i called them.  Maybe that's what those numbers do when you call outside of normal business hours but if so that's just dumb.

Thanks for the informative posts here!
