Right, but if a slot can only handle 8, and the controller is telling the system it has 16, it's not going to be able to get the controller to only utilize half of the available ram. 

Taking an educated guess here because I haven't tested this sort of thing, but I'm going to assume it won't register it. 

 

RAM either works at full capacity or it doesn't, just the way the controllers on board work. So your system won't be able only utilize half the available ram on one stick when the controller is telling the system there's 16gbs which is outside of what the system can handle. 

Fanboys are the worst thing to happen to the tech community World. Chief among them are Apple fanboys.

Right, but if a slot can only handle 8, and the controller is telling the system it has 16, it's not going to be able to get the controller to only utilize half of the available ram.
