Is there a quick/easy way to know how many peripherals / external HDDs you can have plugged into your computer before they'll cause an issue?

Some people report having 3 8 TB externals plugged into their computer and 2 will randomly disconnect due to the power draw.

I think I've even experienced that scenario myself with 2 larger externals connected to my laptop at once. 1 will sometimes disconnect after a period of time. I just assume there's too much of a power draw.

3.5" drives normally use external power to not rely on USB output power

Hmm, not sure on the disconnects then as these drives have power bricks so they shouldn't need to use the USB for power output.
