Hi folks,

I'm in need for an upgrade, my current gpu & mobo are damaged & need replacement. I'm aiming for a gaming PC in 1080p on a 23″ 60 HZ monitor.

What's left of my PC is:

FX8350 (not overclocked)

2x8 DDR3 RAM

Plextor SSD 128 GB

HItachi HDD 1TB

23″ Dell U2312HM (i won't buy a better one in the nearest future)

Chieftec 750W power supply

My budget is pretty humble. around 400-450$ at most.

Would you recommend saving a bit more money & upgrading to a new CPU as well OR will my 8350  be a good combo with something like Nvidia 1060 or  Radeon 480? Will I face extreme bottlenecking with those?

Any newer AMD CPU's have a different socket, so If I decide to change my CPU in a year or so, I'll have to buy a new mobo again?

The FX series is a dead upgrade path as it still uses DDR3 RAM. Try pick up the new Ryzen 2 CPU's with 8GB of ram, You will see a huge performance increase and then you have a new upgrade path for higher end hardware in the future.

I cant stress it enough, if you can afford it, avoid "upgrading" on the fx platform, move to a newer, faster and more efficient architecture

8350 can be okay in modern titles that are multi-threaded, though moving away from it is very sinceable since it is rather old just like @owencrispy pointed out. See if you can get your hands on a older GPU like the R9 290x and see if you can snagg a 1000 series ryzen on the cheap or similar when the new Ryzens are released, maybe used or similar cpu`s. Dont think yo will see any major bottlenecking on the 480 or the 1060 (expect some). the R9 has similar performance to those two.

The best upgrade would be to go down to your local Walmart and buying a sack of potatoes, a G4560 and a used GPU and 8 gigs of used SODIMM memory ( with an adapter ) if I was on a budget.

If not then get an AIO cpu water cooler an 8700k two 1080 tis with an include AIO water cooler and 64 gigs of TridentZ RGB memory

no grammar cause im typing with one finger while eating :P
