Can you hear fans spin up? Can you see LEDs come on? Did you try hooking it up to an external display to see if that gives you a picture?

Is the battery all the way in? Is it plugged into wall power? Does it feel hot to the touch?

Small chance it will work but worth trying:

Unplug the laptop and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Remove the battery and hold the power button again.

Now plug in the cable and see if it turns on. If not, insert the battery and try again. 

 

If that doesn't work you'll probably have to open her up to find out what's at fault.
