Hello,

I just bought 8gb ram module for my pc, because I want to have 16gb. I have installed the module into my MOBO, but nothing happened. I still have 8gb. Why?

Are they matching kits? Same speed, CAS latency, and preferably same brand? If they aren't, it can cause serious problems

did you install it into the same colored slot? You shouldn't have them right next to each other, miss a slot then put it in there. 

I'll try help you out. I'm partial to certain vendors but I'll never pretend to know something I don't. Stay cool.

Maybe you didn't install it correctly. Maybe the RAM you bought doesn't work. Maybe you're using a laptop and you have to change a setting in the BIOS.

 

Give some more details maybe?

For instance: what are your system specs? And specs of the new RAM you got. Is it the same as the stick that was already installed?

What happens when you only use the new stick of RAM?

They are both the same. Same speed, same type, same brand, same colored slot. I have desk computer. Its pretty new, like 3 months old.  I had trouble when I was installing the memory stick. It was very hard and I was afraid that I will break it. When I tried to take to remove the old ram, it got stuck on the way. I was really scared that I have broke it, so I just pushed it back. I don´t know which ram is working and which don´t. Is there some program that would tell me that?

Sounds like it's not seated correctly. It does take a little force to insert or remove RAM. Pull/push straight up or down and you'll be fine. Also, note the little clamps on the side, push on both to open them and remove RAM, and also open them before installing sticks.

If there's 4 slots on your motherboard use the one that had RAM in it originally, and leave one empty slot between the two sticks. 

If it doesn't work, move both sticks over, still leaving one empty slot between the two.

@VVoltorYeah, so it is as I expected. The old module is still working, but the new one is not (BIOS says that there is nothing in that slot). So I am going to change the slots for both of them. But I have problem with that. The old ram is jammed in the slot. I can´t get it out. I am afraid that I will break it.

Maybe it's the slot, you can try the new RAM stick in another slot, it should still work but you won't get dual channel performance.

 

Not really sure why you can't remove the old stick of RAM. When you open the tabs on the side, does the RAM move up a little bit?

@VVoltor I have moved the new ram into another slot but still nothing. Its probably broken.

                             When I try to remove the old ram, it goes up on one side, but the second side doesn´t move. I was pushing it up with great power but it was not moving.

I have tried to push the old ram a little bit, so it won´t be in contact with the slot and then I inserted the new ram. Only thing I got after turning it on was black screen, so that probably means that the new ram is really broken.

Anyway, thank you for your help!
