So, I've had this custom built PC for a while now to use for everything. i have an Intel Skylake 6700K overclocked to 4.40 ghz, MSI 21ZOA M5, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a EVGA NVIDIA GTX 950 SSC. however, I want to upgrade this graphics card to the 1080. I haven't really chosen the brand (MSI, Zotac, ASUS, etc.) yet, but after hearing about bottle necking and the performance from CPUs or GPUs being decreased, I want to know if it is good enough to upgrade to the 1080, or get something else that can work with my components compatibly.

Thanks,

Bryan

Just wait, Nvidia will probably be releasing a better GPU soon, but yes that CPU shouldn't bottleneck the 1080 in games.

Thanks for your reply. I also think that Nvidia might be releasing a new GPU soon, but the price might be over the 1080

They will probably release them at Computex in June, and your welcome!

Yeah esp. with the jump in VRAM prices, and the like it probably will be a bit more. But, an upcoming 1170, 2070, or whatever they are calling it, would probably be a better value, esp. if they have tensor cores, which will allow for ray-tracing, which will make scenes with complex lighting look all the more appealing.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update: I ended up buying a GTX 1080 Founder's Edition at best buy for $649. I also had to buy a new monitor because all my monitors didn't have HDMI. Overall, I ended up spending around $800 in two days. The monitor is the 27" curved essential monitor.
