1. Budget & Location

Kinda open since I have to save money for that build anyways.

I'm from Germany so we measure in Europe  (€) ^^

2. Aim

Mostly gaming besides the regular office stuff but also occasional streaming (but just beginner stuff)

3. Monitors

I plan on using one 27" 4k monitor, maybe up to 3 in the distant future and right now I'm stuck with my trusty LG Flatron E2250V 21.5" 1080p

4. Peripherals

I'm opting for a Corsair K95 RGB and a Logitech G502. The OS shall be some kind of Windows 10

5. Why are you upgrading?

Because I'm literally heating my room with just my PC which is also failing more and more. The AMD FX-9370 doesn't help eather as one would guess.

So now to my plans:

-1 Asus ROG Maximus X Formula

-1 Intel I7-8700K

-1 EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0

-1 Corsair AX 860i

-16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3000MHz (4x4)

-2 Samsung 960 Pro 512GB as RAID 0 for OS

-1 WD Black 6Tb SATA 6GB 3.5"

-1 Corsair Carbide Quiet 400q

If you're getting 16Gb of RAM, get a 2x8Gb kit as it leaves room for future expansion without needing to replace any memory.

Do NOT store your OS in a RAID 0 array, otherwise you're screwed if a drive fails. 256Gb is enough for Windows, plus a little headroom. Based off that, you could go super enthusiast and store your OS in a RAID 1 array so you're protected if one of your SSDs fails.

Aside from that, looks like a pretty good build.

I thought of the OS as to be disposable so literally all data goes to the HDD exept for like the most important game at that time so if any SSD fails i have no problem in ditching the OS and the MoBo unfortunately doesn't allow for more than 16GB so i thought 4 sticks would be better than ...

The ROG Maximus X Formula is an overkill motherboard if you aren't gonna overclock the CPU heavily.

I wouldn't put two m.2 ssds in raid 0 because if one ssd fails...

Get two 8GB sticks of RAM if you have any plan on upgrading in the future.

An Asus Strix GTX 1080 is better than the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX 3.0 in terms of silence.

Get 2x8Gb RAM instead. Also, the RAID 0 960 pros is a waste of money. NVMe SSDs only marginally improve boot times, so you'd be better off getting a 1tb 860 evo or something and using the money saved on a 1080 ti.

well, my "superfast" ssd i bought when those SATA ssds came on the market didn't get me my 10s boot so i kinda want it to work this time no matter what ... you see?

The difference between NVMe SSDs and a decent SATA one is a few seconds at best. If you really want that "peace of mind," though, I suggest you not waste your money on 960 pro RAID 0 and instead just get a 1tb 960 evo or something

Yeah, maybe i should ditch the RAID ... that would give me even more fast memory for games then ^^ But how comes then that my old system with the then fast SSD never was as fast as everybody elses despite the "superior" hardware?

First off, which SSD is it that you're talking about? There's also a lot of factors at play. Depending on how slow, other stuff like the CPU could actually bottleneck the SSD. Depending on the amount of programs and stuff installed on your windows installation your boot up times might be slower. It could be possible you had a SATA 2, not SATA 3, connection on your motherboard (depending on how old we're talking about). But one thing I think might have contributed is that it wasn't necessarily that your OS boot times were slow, but your motherboard POST times were slower than others resulting in the SSD feeling slower whereas in reality your mobo was at fault.

It's a crucial SSD on what my manual had told me to be an SATA 3 port back in the day on that AsRock 990FX Extreme 9 so i thought the MoBo should be all fine for such a thing ... the best i could afford at that time and like the FX at least in the top third of the line (at least i hoped so ^^ )

Which specific one? Some crucial SSDs were good but others were eh
