You have a laptop connected to the internet via WiFi, and then an ethernet cable from that laptop to your computer that doesn't have a WiFi card, am I understadning correctly?

I'm not sure your laptop can "transfer" the network like that. AFAIK, the laptop is connected to two, unconnected networks with no way to bridge them. I was never able to do this last i tried it, but that was a few years back.
