Overclocking Help?

Go to solution Solved by kevp453,

That might just be the luck of the silicon lottery draw. Eventually you might hit a speed ceiling even though you still have thermal room, it happens. 5.0 GHz is a really good overclock for that chip and not everybody can push past it. At 1.27v it's a little higher than normal for that chip at 5.0Ghz, so you might not get more out of it. If you have to get all the way to 1.3 and not get the extra 100 MHz I'd just call it a day. See what you can do to bring the voltage down and maintain your 5.0 instead.

Hey guys, just looking for information.

I have my i5-8600k overclocked to 5.0GHz at 1.27v, but I cannot get it to overclock to 5.1GHz, even at 1.3v.

I do a video render test to initially test my overclocks, and all my tests crash in the beginning 30 seconds of every test (with temps never going over 80 degrees)

Is it normal to have large voltage margins between overclocks, or is something possibly wrong here?

Thanks for any replies :)

5.0GHz is still a nice OC, so I'll settle for what I have.

Thanks for letting me know! Appreciate it very much.

while i am not a great person to say something, i would have to emphasize what kevp said, try to reduce your voltage at this point while maintaining 5ghz. you found the max speed for your proc, the lower the voltage at that speed stable the longer it will last. the difference in how long you can sustain the speed might be a difference of 6 months if you can minimize the voltage.
