Hey people of the forums, long time lurker here.

I have had a late 2012 imac for many years now. Its starting to show its age and I have decided its time to upgrade.

Budget / Location: ~$3400 USD for everything / FL Usa.

Aim: Playing VR and modern games at 1440, high or ultra.

Monitor / Peripherals: I need a new monitor but have most everything else (mouse/keeb/speakers/headphones)

Other Needs: This budget should leave some room for new games and needs to include a decent laptop for college. I was looking at something that would get the job done, such as the Acer Swift E.

I would try to order as much of this off amazon for convenience and because of Prime.

The computer would need to be semi-portable, hence the microATX mobo and somewhat portable case. I am flexible on most parts of the build, this is just a preliminary parts list to see what needs to be done.

If anyone has any suggestions that would make this build better that would be much appreciated. :D

just don't forget to add a SSD inside of that laptop, something like 120GB is enough for laptop that is just going to be used when out and about, somewhat like a chromebook

You can fit in a 1080ti in your PC, but you are going to be a bit above your max budget, but I would recommend it as it will be more suited towards 165hz 1440p ultra/high.

no idea if the GPU fits in that case or not, just as a warning if you do plan on getting it, that is the cheapest 1080ti and anything higher (more expensive) would be >$250 out of your budget at a minimum if I did math right

also something about waiting for next generation GPU if you are patient enough, I guess. should be Q2 2018 or something iirc

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.
