budget laptop for linux

im looking to buy a cheap laptop for under 300 pounds that I am planning on putting Linux onto.

currently Im looking at the asus c301 and hp 14, what would you recommend?

X230 + classic keyboard mod + 1080p IPS mod

X230 can classic keyboard mod quite easily, but flashing the embedded controller (keyboard bindings) is annoying, and the IPS mod is something louis rossmann showed:
