I recently attempted to join the PC master race after years of design work on my Macbook Pro. Couldn't be more excited once I had everything in front of me.

I felt very confident in my ability to build it up and the compatibility with my case (Dan Case A4 SFX V2) and between the individual parts.

And yet... No post, the only sign that I have power is the onboard LED's from my motherboard, when the power button on the case is pressed I get a click similar to a solenoid switch turning on but nothing else.

I have a new PSU on the way but if there are any other possibilities for fixes I would really appreciate the feedback (note. I have tried the troubleshooting pieces that I was able to as I don't have a second PC to test in)

If there's a click when you try to turn it on, that can be a sign of either a dead CPU, dead motherboard, or both.

Does the PSU fan spin up when you press the power button?

Did you make sure to connect the 8-pin power connector at the top left of the motherboard?

@Crunchy Dragon The PSu fan does not spin up, but it is also not meant to unless under load. I know that I can do the paperclip bridge test but since I have another PSU coming today I was planning on just swapping it and seeing.

@Spyder1384 I did yes, although out of necessity of from the size of the case there was a bit of some wire manipulation to get things to fit.

Ok. And just to verify, the click that your hearing, is it from the switch itself or from inside the case?

Hard to tell, I would hazard a guess that it's the PSU but it is definitely coming from the left side of the case where the PSU, AIO, and Power button are. The switch only will make the "solenoid sound" if there is power.

Personally I'd say your on the right track then by swapping out the PSU. Though it might be helpful if you could post a decent pic or 2 of the inside of your case so that we might validate your internal connections. If we can verify that all connections are proper and the PSU swap doesn't work then you're almost definitely looking at what @Crunchy Dragon had suggested about it being your Mobo or CPU.

I'll pull some photos on lunch, really hoping that its just a dead PSU, all the parts are 100% brand new.

Additional question, would my graphics card spin up independently if it was receiving power? is that a card specific deal?

Depends on the card as to when the fans kick on. If it's getting power from the 6 or 8 pin connector then it should power the fan on. The only other question I can think of at the moment is, did you make sure to install the risers in the case before installing the motherboard?

I did indeed. I had first placed it in and forgot about them but I had not tried powering it on at that point. just dry fitting.

Ok. In that case I stand by my previous suggestion. Please let us know how it goes after trying the PSU swap.

Absolutely! I appreciate the help a great deal. Even without it working I'm still too damn excited for this project.

The PSU fan should spin up for a second or two during startup, regardless of it being designed to only run under load.

Update * Still no post with the new Power supply. I was able to locate and identify an amber color single LED on the corner of the motherboard. I believe it notifies about critical errors. Any chance hooking up a speaker might let me hear some bios beeps?
