Computer won't start up

My friend's computer won't start up. I was cleaning it like I do any computer I have cleaned. Then im replugging everything and plugging in power cord. Switch the power supply back on. Press the power button then the fan's led's flash, GPU light go on and such and then it goes dark. I tried attaching another PSU but to no avail. The motherboard is old and was bought used. So were the PSU and some other parts. What could be the problem? Could the motherboard be broken or something

put everything out of the case maybe place it on a box and try again.

maybe there is a lose connection - make sure the 24 pin is plugged into the motherboard properly, and also the cpu and graphics card. I have experienced this type of thing before

Time can make the power connectors have a bad connection, do you have a different motherboard to troubleshoot? or maybe try and hold the 24pin in place so it is not strained.

If the motherboard doesn't have power shouldn't the lights on the GPU still turn on?

Nvidia GTX 560 if i remember correctly

Hey,

 

Are you sure that you reconnected the 12V(4PIN) cable as well? This type of issue happens when the 24PIN is connected but the 12V(4PIN) is not.

I did reattach both power cables to the motherboard. Maybe I should try it outside the case

I would suggest unplugging all power cables and reconnect them before you go into the hassle of removing all part from the case.

But my question still stands that if the motherboard doesn't get power but the GPU being newer does, shouldn't the GPU led's still light up indicating that it get's power. Or does it not light up because the motherboard doesn't work?
