GTX 770 image corruption

I got this gpu a long time ago an just yesterday i starte getting green and pink flickers on my two monitors, i thought it was a bug but i had to take out the gpu fom the pc because it wouldnt stop happening. I cant work or even watch a movie.
is there an explanation?
a fix?

Specs:

Intel i5 4690

8gb DDR3 hyperx fury  1600Mhz
gygabite z97 gaming 5 motherboard

x4 ultra 1050Watt psu
EVGA gtx 770 SC

All drivers are up to date.
Im not exactly at a time to  afford a new gpu, but i do need it to do my job.

Time for a new gpu. There is pretty much no way to fix that.

Is there a specific cause or action linked to this damage?
something i can avoid in the future

It might be related to an overclock, or high temperatures, or it might have just died on its own.
