I had an idea, I hate the little box with tiny buttons that's supposed to control my RGB strips, what if I replaced the little controller with something useful? I have a wii remote (wiimote?) laying around collecting dust. What is if I programmed each button to send an ir signal the receiver can understand. the remote has 44 buttons and the wii remote has only 11, but I only use a few of the 44 buttons. Does this sound like a good idea? I have very little coding experience, but I'm willing to give it a try. So basically, should I try this out or is a waste of time? Thanks guys!

You would need to sync up the signal from the Wii remote to the LED controllers receiver if that is possible as for other options though they make touch remotes for RGB.

That's a really cool remote, thanks for the info!

If it's IR, you could just make an android app to do it (depending on what phone you have).

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Make the Wii Remote sending IR is a weekend job. The Remote have a IR camera for tracking and alle the HID communication is over bluetooth. Unless you want to mod the remote to sending IR you need a different option.

1. make it voice controlled (Alexa)

2. MQTTs/COAPs and handy, webserver, ... as remote

3. gesture sensor

4. buy a decend ir remote like the xbox one remote.

I had no idea that the xbox controller used ir light, that's really cool. Also, I want a physical remote to replace the one that came with the kit, for my situation, gestures and voice are impractical.
