What’s up people’s anyone have any suggestions on a small form factor case that hold at least  4x 3.5” bays preferable hot swappable?. I’m looking at building a NAS/media/VM/opencloud server using an mini-iTX mobo and a core i5 coffee lake cpu. I’m looking at the Fractel design 500 cube case but wondering if there is something small and better? Also for the cache drive in either unraid or freeNAS is an NVME SSD that much better than a traditional SSD I know the NVME are faster but also more expensive. Is it worth the money? Thanks for the help peeps

Depends what you want to use it for. An archive server wouldn't need high speed for instance.

ZFS allows you to adapt that btw with it's various settings on your dataset. So you can have archive and media server within the same pool and different settings.

It will be a main data center for my house. Media server, cloud storage, data back up, and torrent server. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to configure it yet since I don’t know which OS I will be using. Just wanted to know if the extra money for the NVme was worth it and if there was a better/smaller case than the fractal design 500

You will want to run the OS on a small SSD (120GB or so) type doesn't matter much and then get a server case like the Rosewill RSV-4500 with the 15 bays. Works great and is a cheap case too.

The ssd question was pertaining to the cache for either freeNAS or unraid both of which I believe the OS run off a USB drive
