PC for RoboSub Competition

legacytp

There is a competition called RoboSub and our submarine needs a PC that is powerful enough to 3D model some parts on Solidworks (preferably 4 cores 8 threads) but small enough to fit into very tight space (Mini ITX board with no case). I've been using PCPartPicker to make some samples, but I'd like outside opinions.

Requirements:

- Low TDP (Under 100 Watts preferably but flexible with this)

- Mini ITX (or smaller if possible)

- 4 core 8 thread CPU w/ min speed of 2.5Ghz (flexible with this)

- Modular PSU (smallest consumer size possible)

- Under $500 (no peripherals needed and flexible with this)

- 8 GB of ram

- SSE2 support (if possible)

- Able to run 64-bit operating system

- Around 100-150 GB M.2 SSD

Ryzen 5 2400g is the answer, it's got a clock speed of 3.5ghz, low tdp and will be great for CAD with the Vega 8 onboard gpu

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Could you make a sample build on PCPartPicker please? I'm kidna eyeing that CPU, but a computer isn't just a CPU :P

Thanks, but I'm look only for an M.2 only. Why the 3200 MHz ram? Will it help a lot? And what is the CX450M? PSU?

3200 RAM helps a lot in Ryzen performance due to Infinity Fabric, and APU performance.

Is SFX the smallest size PSU? And is Mini ITX the smallest motherboard size? Those are the smallest I've heard of but don't know for sure.

You can use a pico psu, hdplex or similar with an external brick, there are also stx units available.  Check out the sff forum.
