So going to be buying and then building a computer on boxing day. I have all the parts picked out that i want but the GPU i want to get the 780ti but just dont know because i was thinking a 290 because WAY cheaper but still ish close for price to performance. But my problem is i don't want a card that is as loud as a 290 or 290x. i could go for a normal 780 but it cost more than the 290 and gives you less performance. Is their a card that is in the middle? I would just go with 780ti if i thought anyone would have a good sale on it but being so new i would be shocked if anyone had it on sale for more than 10 bucks off. Thanks for the help im stuck and could use it badly.

If you can wait because the next generation of cards will bring the price down. If not then get a GTX 780 because of it's features and it is also the same price as a R9 290.

i thought it cost more than the 290. must have been looking for something else. I know having the next gen will bring prices down but that could be days or months. i have been planing this build for a solid like 3 months now. i dont know if i should get something smaller then when next gen comes out buy a tank. But till then im stuck and i dont think that would be worth it to spend less now just to have a random card sit around later. i might just go 780 because of quiet. maybe try and find a non ref cooled one and OC it? idk what do you think?

290s are selling for higher then their MSRP because of all the miners and demand is high. 780s can be found for about 500CAD, about the same as a 290 right now.

The non-ref 290s will probably arrive in january, and will be quieter and better performing then the reference. Since demand is high I wouldnt be suprised if these hit the shelves priced at >$500CAD

I would say pick up a 780 on sale on boxing day, the 780Ti is a beast however price/performance isnt there

The 290 isn't inherently loud. It's just the stock cooler. Get an aftermarket one and it would be just as quiet as the 780.

The 290 pricing has changed because non-availability. I would say GTX 780 non-reference, get something like the DCUII, Twin/Tri Frozr, Windforce 3.

So far, any aftermarket 290 would do.
