I know there would need to be a major haul in infrastructure but what about allowing people to post there own videos? They can post them and won't get money or anything but then they can opt in for paid stuff. I would imagine if the site got big enough the revenue from all the subscriptions could contribute to creators based on fews or something? Or maybe sponsors I don't know.

Just keeping this here as a No they're building it  so each person is subscribed to individually and the revenue is split between Floatplane to maintain the platform and the individual content creators. Otherwise it would go the way of Vessel. They may eventually open it to the public but it would be pointless because nobody would subscribe to a channel they don't already follow. You'd be best off building a following on Youtube then expanding to Floatplane.

TBH with the direction Youtube is going I feel like it might be easy to get people to jump ship to a different platform. Not Floatplane specifically but...

There are other video services already... Floatplane isn't for your everyday user to begin with. And I don't think business plan would be to even make it like that ever. Point is to have it like Patreon, but with integrated video service.
