Hey guys, looking for some help in regards to my computers wifi.

I've tested my tablet, phone, other computers, ps4 and xbox, they all give back a download of over 50mbps and around that for upload. And usually the ping is around 18.

But when I get onto my main computer, i can barely get 1mbps, and the ping has insane spikes. I'm running a PCIe slot card that is rated for 300mbps.

I've tried every single tip that I have seen on the internet, after hours of searching. I even reset my computer back to factory settings and started fresh just incase there was a program or virus that was limiting me.

Still nothing worked, so I need some help. I am going to hook my computer up to ethernet later on, but I can't just set my computer up where the ethernet is, otherwise I would be running a wired connection.

I used to get over 50mbps on my computer, nothing's changed on it, just randomly starting pinging and having really slow downloads.

Any help is really appreciated as I am really fed up with this, I am going to contact my provider, which is Westnet/iiNet and get a technician out if nothing changes.

Thank you!

I'd suggest getting another WiFi-device to test with. USB WiFi-sticks are a simple solution and don't cost much, and if you get better speeds with one of those, it could mean your internal card is damaged and/or the antennas are damaged or loose.

I used to be running a stick, and then it just started playing up and getting slow speeds, so yesterday i went and got the card, and its just had the same results, sometimes I get 20mbps but then 9/10 times I get terrible results. The antennas are as tight as can be.

Personally, I think it still sounds like an OS-issue. You could, if you're willing to do some work, download e.g. Ubuntu and use Rufus to make a bootable USB-stick and then booting into Ubuntu with it (it doesn't need to be installed, there's an option to just run it from the USB-stick) and seeing if you get appropriate speeds there.

Is there a link you could send me for some more help on this?

Have you power cycled all network devices yet? This includes the modem and/or router (if you have a separate one), along with all other devices connected to the network. You can even perform a factory reset of the modem and/or router as well, since this will give the networking hardware a chance to revert back to factory defaults as well. Let us know how this goes, and also check to see if your computer is connected to the 2.4GHz network or the 5GHz network.

Hey, how would I go about checking if the computer is at 2.4 or 5ghz? Thanks

You find out if your wireless router/modem supports both networks, then log into the administration for it and find out what each network is named. Then you can check your PC's wireless settings to find out which network you're connected to. If you PC sees both, connect to the 5G network, as it's the faster of the 2 networks. If you need a hand logging into your modem/wireless router, consult your ISP or router support website.
