Hi all

So the time has come I feel a platform upgrade is in order, for now my budget is around 30 000 ZAR [South Africa]  ($2500 30/03/2018) , I do plan to come well under that budget.

I'm a avid gamer and spend most of my time on my computer, be that for gaming, media, and some work.

Games :

MMORPG (wow)

RPG(Path of exile)

Moba (dota 2, lol......, hots)

FPS (pubg,cod,battlefields,overwatch,battalion)

and also the occasional single player game here and there.

Current setup exuding pc :

Monitor 1 : Acer XG270HU 27" 144HZ 1440p

Montior 2 : Benq 27" 1080P 60Hz

Unless one of them break I doubt I will upgrade to 4k quit yet.

Peripherals - not needed but listing what I have

Corsair K70 (original non RBG version - has been RMA'd once for faulty LED's)

logitech g502 proteus spectrum

OS - should be able to transfer my copy of win10 pro if not I will buy a new one.

Why?

age, and I feel a platform upgrade should be good now

Planned new build :

Intel 8600k

Asus Rog Strix Z370-F or  Asus Rog Strix -E (main difference AC wifi and type c header for case) {Please give suggestions}

Corsaor 500D or Corsair Crystal 570X {Please give suggestions or other cases}

G.Skill 3200mhz 16 GB TridentZ RGB

Samsung 960 Evo 500Gb NVMe m.2(gaming)

Samsung 960 Evo 250 NVMe m.2 (OS)

Corsair H150i Pro

Corsair HD120 RGB High pressure fans for rad replacement

PSU - not sure keep my current AX850 (+- 6 years old) or get a new AX750I {replace psu or not ?}

GFX already own a Galax HOF 1080TI

Any and all feedback will be well received !

Thanks

My Rig: Intel 3770k with Corsair H100i pull, Asus Z98 pro , Corsair Vengeance 8GBx2 2100 mhz CL9, Galax HOF 1080 TI, 4 x OCZ Vertex 3 120 gig Raid 0, Corsair AX 850, Corsair Obsidian 650D

Can assure you your copy of 10 pro can be transferred so long as it's linked to your microsoft account. I'd replace the PSU as it's old and older PSU's can be a little unreliable. As for a case, I'd go with this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Yn7CmG/thermaltake-case-ca1d400s1nn00 as I personally have one and they're beautiful cases.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

Current Rig (Dominator II): 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3133 C15, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 at 4GHz, Coolermaster MasterLiquid Lite 120, ASRock B450M Pro4, AMD R9 280X, 120GB TCSunBow SSD, 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 HSD, Corsair CX750M Grey Label, Windows 10 Pro, 2x CoolerMaster MasterFan Pro 120, Thermaltake Versa H18 Tempered Glass.

Previous Rig (Black Magic): 8GB DDR3 1600, AMD FX6300 OC'd to 4.5GHz, Zalman CNPS5X Performa, Asus M5A78L-M PLUS /USB3, GTX 950 SC (former, it blew my PCIe lane so now on mobo graphics which is Radeon HD 3000 Series), 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200RPM HDD, 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 HDD (secondary), Corsair CX750M, Windows 8.1 Pro, 2x 120mm Red LED fans, Deepcool SMARTER case

UPDATE: SPECS UPGRADED DUE TO CASEMOD, 8GB DDR2 800, AMD Phenom X4 9650, Zalman CNPS5X Performa, Biostar GF8200C M2+, AMD Radeon HD 7450 GDDR5 edition, Samsung Spinpoint 250GB 7200RPM HDD, Antec HCG 400M 400W Semi Modular PSU, Windows 8.1 Pro, 80mm Cooler Master fan, Dell Inspiron 530 Case modded for better cable management and support for non Dell boards.

Retired/Dead Rigs: The OG (retired) (First ever PC I used at 3 years old back in 2005) Current Specs: 2GB DDR2, Pentium M 770 @ 2.13GHz, 60GB IDE laptop HDD, ZorinOS 12 Ultimate x86. No you wouldn't since the case you have linked doesn't hold normal ATX boards.

I'd personally build something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bT8bXP

I think the asus strix e board is worth it because of the usb c front header (for future proofing)

For storage I wouldn't pay extra for m.2 instead of sata for your game library, because you can almost double the capacity while still having fast boot times for games

I would also throw in a 1T wd blue for mass storage

CPU: Intel Core i7-950 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R CPU Cooler: NZXT HAVIK 140 RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 (1x2GB), Crucial DDR3-1600 (2x4GB), Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 (1x4GB) GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU II 2GB SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" 1TB HDDs: WD Green 3.5" 1TB, WD Blue 3.5" 1TB PSU: Corsair AX860i & CableMod ModFlex Cables Case: Fractal Design Meshify C TG (White) Fans: 2x Dynamic X2 GP-12 Monitors: LG 24GL600F, Samsung S24D390 Keyboard: Logitech G710+ Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse Pad: Steelseries QcK Audio: Bose SoundSport In-Ear Headphones

Thanks for all the suggestions

@Rasbir Singh For some reason I can't find 960 Evo 2.5" drives in my country we only have 850's, as for the mass storage I do not require it all my media is stored off site and all my important data is synced to a cloud solution.

@xriqn as it has been mentioned the case won't fit my motherboard, doubt it will fit my GFX even, the HOF is a big mother fu$#er

My Rig: Intel 3770k with Corsair H100i pull, Asus Z98 pro , Corsair Vengeance 8GBx2 2100 mhz CL9, Galax HOF 1080 TI, 4 x OCZ Vertex 3 120 gig Raid 0, Corsair AX 850, Corsair Obsidian 650D

Ye you cant find sata 960 because they do not exist. What he meant was that for 500gb 960 m.2 you can have like 1tb 850 or 860 sata and the difference between speeds wont be noticable if you plan to use it as games storage. And I think that to have 500gb more storage is well worth it over nothing. The evo 960 is good only if you are planming to move huge files all over the place every day.
