Hi all.

Have just joined the forum as i am in need of some help. Currently i am in two minds if i should upgrade my cpu. i am planning to basically upgrade my entire pc including Monitor, case ect. My current cpu is the I5 6500. For the time i have had it i have found it to be a good cpu for what it is and the price i got it for. Now the reason i would like a new one  is that i am getting an entire new setup and would like a good cpu for productivity and also casual gaming. Would i notice a lot of difference if i switched to the new Ryzen CPUs for productivity? i will be using programs such as Photoshop and DSS for example or  shall  i just stick with my 6500 for a little while longer. I am thinking about overclocking as well ( i have never done it before). I imagine i can't overclock my i5 6500?

Many Thanks for the help

I mean, why are you upgrading in the first place? You said for "productivity" , but is it legit professional or just hobby?

Just a hobby but the current parts i have at the moment i would like to upgrade them as i have had my motherboard for quite a while and is only a basic one and my case is not the greatest either. But by your question im guessing you would recommend me not to upgrade.

Thanks for the help

That's not an actual Asus model. H110 what?  ;)

I'd say hold off for a while until the R5 2600 launches. It'll be a great value and great upgrade.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

as the others here are saying.. hold off untill the 2000 series of Ryzen is out and look at prices... if they release a 2700 non x model id go for that tbh ...

Switched myself from i7 6700k to R7 1700 ... havent looked back once
