Recently built a new computer for my birthday, but to my dismay, my Gigabyte GTX 1080 doesn't function. I downloaded all the drivers, including GeForce experience. One of my monitors is plugged in to my GPU through HDMI, and i remains black. Whenever I try to play a game, it has very very low FPS. I am not a computer genius and i have no idea how to fix this. thoughts?

This probably isn't the case but you didn't happen to connect one of your monitors to your motherboard instead of the graphics card itself, did you? Also, please clarify what you mean by "low FPS" and give your system specs.

PC Specs:

one monitor in my mobo and one in my graphics card, or else i wouldn't be able to type this! my specs are:

Mobo: Prime Z370-A

CPU: Intel i7 8700k

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce

by low FPS, my games run extremely slow. I hypothesize this is because I'm on integrated graphics.

Some motherboards disable the built-in display outputs when a GPU is plugged in, hence it stays black. You can change it (probably) in the BIOS if it supports simultaneous output.

That should be on if you want to use both.

If your 1080 really isn't working then the low FPS (if it's truly low) could be caused by games running on the iGPU instead of the 1080, but since it's detected by windows try uninstalling the drivers with DDU and then reinstalling.

Exactly. When a monitor is connected to a mobo it uses the awful integrated graphics and completely bypasses your graphics card. There is absolutely no reason not to run both monitors on your graphics card once it's working. And just to get this straight, the monitor on your graphics card is black while the one on your mobo works but has poor fps in games? I also looked up code 43 and it's recommended that you reinstall GPU drivers.

ok, i changed the graphics in munich BIOS to PCIe, and i was prompted on the monitor that was previously black to plug in PCIe cables, but they should be plugged in. i did uninstall and reinstall my drivers twice too.

Double check the PCI-E connector, though.

If it's not connected properly (e.g. one of the pins are not in place), that error message can come up.

If you have a modular power supply, make sure the cable it's connected on the PSU end.

Make sure the GTX 1080 is securely in the PCI-E X16 slot, secure to the back of the PC case, and is not going crooked / cock-eyed.

Upload a few pictures of the inside of your PC if you can, so we can see what's going on.

That's why!

You need a PCI-E 8-pin power connector for the GTX 1080 -- not a PCI-E 6-pin.

Those two extra pins are mandatory; not optional.

You can either use a PCI-E 8-pin or a PCI-E 6+2 pin connector.

What power supply do you have (brand, make, and model) ?

The "spec" for a PCI-E 6-pin connector is 75W, while a 8-pin is double that, at 150W.

You can get one of those 2 PCI-E 6-pin to 1 PCI-E 8-pin adapters...something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/GutsParker-6-Pin-Female-8-Pin-Cable/dp/B01N3T6C2K

It is STRONGLY recommended that you use/get a power supply that has native PCI-E 8 (or 6+2) pin support.

Power supplies (AKA PSUs) with just a single 6-pin connector are usually on the lower power output side (e.g. 400W or under).
