HDMI port not working??

Hello everyone! I just completed my build, but unfortunately, I'm already off to a bad start :(

Here are the specs

Gigabyte 870A-UD3 motherboard with AMD Phenom II x6 processor

Evga 500W PSU

Evga Nvidia GTX 1050ti

I'm new to this whole PC building thing. This was my first build, did it all with about $500, had an absolute blast doing it, but I noticed the 1050ti doesn't have a VGA port, so I can't just plug my monitor into it. I could get a VDI monitor if I wanted to, but this is an HDMI monitor I use for my computer and Xbox One. I booted up the computer (and was super stoked it f*cking turned on, was a little nervous it wouldn't even do that lol) then took the HDMI cord from my Xbox and plugged it into the HDMI port on the 1050ti. My monitor didn't turn on. Bad card? Bad mobo? Tomorrow I'll try the other graphics card port, but the card was up and running, along with everything else in the computer, and I'm on D2 on Xbox right now, so it's not the cord I wouldn't think. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you connecting your XBox to your GTX 1050Ti?

The HDMI port (or any other port) on a video cards OUTPUTS video.

It does not take a video INPUT.

It outputs to a TV / monitor, same as how the XBox outputs to a TV.

Yes so taking the end from my Xbox and plugging it into my PC, making the connection from my PC to my monitor, it should work, right?

To my knowledge HDMI cords are the exact same, it just depends on what they're being plugged in to. Or am I wrong?

Double-check the following:

  • HDMI cable is securely connected to the HDMI port on the GTX 1050Ti -- sometimes you need a tiny bit of force
  • Power off the system, and make sure the GTX 1050Ti is installed into the PCI-E X16 slot correctly and securely
  • If your GTX 1050Ti has any 6/8-pin power connections, make sure those are connected -- they are NOT optional

Just curious, are you able to take a few pictures of the inside of your PC and upload them here?

Yes I will be able to take a few pictures. It felt like the cord was plugged in all the way; it felt snug in the card. I unplugged and plugged it back in multiple times before making this thread, but no luck. To my knowledge, this 1050Ti did not have any PCI-E connections, or any power connections to make. It was just a plug and play-type card

Let me know if these help at all...I've had a few beers as celebration for finishing the PC lol but if you need more specific pictures let me know. I have the 1050Ti plugged into the top blue slot if you can't see it

Yo your SSD isn't even connected!

You need SATA power and data cable for that!

The video card is installed, but there is no screw mounting it to the back of the PC case...not sure if it's in the slot crocked...

Aside from that:

  • RAM looks good (as far as I can tell in the picture)
  • CPU heatsink + fan looks good

Do you get a Gigabyte logo screen?

Do you see the "press Delete" to get into BIOS?

Did the motherboard come with the Phenom II X6, or did you buy them separately?
