gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 3 RGB Strips without Aura Sync

so i just bought a Phanteks Eclipse p300 and i don't have much light inside the case. i thougt that i would buy a rgb strip. i would like something that isn't too expensive but my motherboard doesn't have aura sync or similar.

so my question is, do i need a controller like a corsair node pro or can i just buy a rgb strip?

As long as you have an RGB header on your mobo, a strip will probably work. If you don't, you'll need a controller
