8700k dropping to avx offset speed during gaming

^^

when I set an offset on the avx and play games it drops from 5ghz to 4.7 and stays at 4.7 most of the time but flicks to 5 ghz now and then

asus maximum x board

cpu is fine at 5ghz 1.33 and no avx but it's just annoying that it isn't working

i assumes it would be 5ghz. All the time I till I started video rendering ect

is this just how it works or what ?

Or is there something else I need to do

AFAIK AVX offset is still being bugged (is sometimes being used even if no AVX load is present), last thing ive read was that Raja posted in the ROG forums that a Bios fix is on the way.

Clocked to 5 ghz but if I set a avx offset to clock is mostly at the avx speed when only gaming

Cheers bro

nice oc btw 5ghz at 1.25 is insane, is that because of the silicon in ur chip is good or before of how good the formula is ?

I guess Silicon, Formula shouldnt be any better then the Hero in terms of overclocking.

My Chip can do 5ghz @1.235 i just bumped it for a little extra stability until i delid and my AiO arrives, im currently still on a Thermalright Silverarrow.

Have seen forum posts with poeple that had more luck. 8700k's with 5GHz @1.168v do excist. Im just above average and pretty happy with it, finally a CPU that isnt very bad in overclocking.

Nice I'm delidded and temps hit 70 max at 1.32v

at 1.425 I can do 5.425ghz which is awesome but too hot even with delid

Strange cpu sample you have there. Usually from what ive heard/read and tested the 8700k's scalability is within 0,04-0,06v per 100mhz.

So having a CPU that needs 1.32v for 5GHz to be stable while also being able to hit stable 5,4GHz with 1,425v doesnt make much sense to me.

But hey sometimes things just work out strange.. and every CPU behaves a little different.

Ive tested to which point my CPU will boot into windows @1.35v it booted all the way up to 5.4 but it crashed within seconds..

In the end however i want to stay below or little above 1.3v for 24/7 OC.

I thought ok well if it runs 1.25v on 5GHz on air it will need about 1.33v-1.37v for stable 5.2GHz

Later on maybe upgrading into a custom loop while delidded i can estimate -0,02v to -0,03v and maybe end up with 1.3v - 1.35v for stable 5.2GHz.

But it will take a while until i can afford a custom loop, so i decided to first buy the Eisbaer LT360 so that i can use the copper radiator when upgrading to full custom.

Just delid and don't use avx offeset? I run my 8700k at 1.385v @5ghz with no offset and it's great. Max temp during prime95 was 76C on the hottest core with a simple 240mm AIO (Kraken X52). Room temp was around 24C ambient. The airflow in my case is amazing though.

Ah okay, yes I agree. I had the offset at -2 before and was able to run much lower voltage to hit 5ghz, however in Battlefield 1 and GTA V i noticed the clocks fall down to the AVX offset, and in other games they'd stay up or fluctuate, so I got rid of it at the end lol.

Yeah basically what I done and am currently running, with avx offset I could do 5ghz at 1.27v because in the avx test it would drop and in anything else 1.27 was enough
