Buggy means that its a known defect in the hardware and the kernel driver is doing some sort of work around usually.

Its likely just sub-par hardware that is getting in the way.

I fought for months with my WRT 1200 AC to get the WiFi working properly, converting it into a standalone Debian based Linux machine in the process (custom bootloader installed in flash that boots Debian from an external USB HDD).  The WiFi chipset had similar bugs in software that were never corrected, so I had to get a purpose built Kernel to work around the WiFi driver/firmware bugs.

so what is my best course of action to resolve issue i do have a custom built pc not sure if that affects the router but will post build if it helps

If those messages are on the router, replace the router or go to a custom firmware if you think you are up to it.

Dont buy Asus network gear, go with Cisco/Linksys or any other manufacturer that specializes in network gear.

so the issue is my router and not network?

Is this from a router log?  If so, its the router, possibly a chip or board design shortcoming.  Most routers are not designed with Gig uplink speeds in mind, so they just use "good enough" parts.

yes it is copied and pasted from the router acess web page system log

There is a mitigation step you can take.

Make sure all client PC's have jumbo frames on.  This message can can be exacerbated if you have jumbo-frame enabled clients communicating with non jumbo-frame clients.  You can also try disabling jumbo-frames on all connected PCs.

Hmm

You could always call their tech support, but I dont know if they could help with this kind of problem.  You would likely need to do some protocol analysis to find what the root of the problem is.

Maybe try getting a router from somewhere that has a good return policy, see if it fixes the problem.  If not, return the router.  If you have an old PC hanging around you could look at building a PFSense router for a few bucks.  Get total control over what the router does and such.

wheni have gig connection my modem is a netgear cm700 32x8 1 gig modem

That modem is only rated for 1 Gig by the manufacture. NO cable company can do 1 Gbps on that modem. In order to get a Gigabit connection thru cable internet you need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. So thats part of your issue.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Totally overlooked that as I havent seen a D3.0 modem issued for a while in my area.  DOCSIS 3.0 should be good for 300mbit though.

A new modem should help your downstream bandwidth, but the problems with the router will remain.  It looks like the specific issue with "protocol 0800" is related to early kernel 4.xx builds.

The OP claims to have a 1 Gbps connection. Thats not possible with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. If the OP does have a Gig connection they will need to purchase a DOCSIS 3.1 modem in order to get those speeds. Now as far as the router goes, yeah, the op could need a new router. As it kinda look like there might be a software issue. OR the OP could try DDWRT and see if its compatible, as its free and doesn't cost any money, just some time.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You can have a 1gbit connection and a slower (D3.0) modem if you are "bringing you own hardware".

Even with a D3.0 modem, they should be getting 300mbit downstream.

DDWRT is not for the faint of heart.  If you screw up the install you could end up with a brick that requires hardware hacking to recover, which is beyond the capability of most users.

Even with a D3.0 modem, they should be getting 300mbit downstream.

NONE of the US Cable Cos will do it. If you want 1 Gig they have to do Docsis 3.1. Every Cable Co requires this. The speed on the box for the modem is meaningless. Also as I stated the OP said the have a GIGABIT connection, not 300 Mbps. So if the OP wants full speeds they need DOCSIS 3.1. Period. If you choose to use a slower modem on a 1 Gig connection then your fucking stupid for paying for a Gigabit connection when you will never get Gigabit speeds due to your modem.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
