Hello everyone,i have a few questions regardin ryzen. So i bought an r5 1600 and im waiting for it to arrive,so i wanted to ask a few questions.

1. My specs:

R5 1600

Asus b350m-e

8gb ram (2x4 3000) adata

730w psu thermaltake gold

Rx 480 8gb gaming x

1tb hdd.

So here are the questions:

1:Did i pick a good cpu,mobo,ram,gpu combo?

2. Is 8gb enought?

3. Is 3000 mhz ram enought?

4.What os is the best for this build? And gpu?

5.Should i update the bios?

6. Should i first update the bios and then install os? Or reverse?

7. Say EVERYTHING that i need to do for a new, fresh ryzen build. How to maximize performance, what to download first? And i mean 100% every single thing, please be extensive.

1. Kinda, motherboard is kinda junky tho

2. depends

3. yes

4. Windows? GPU is fine/

5. yes

6. BIOS then OS

7. BIOS update, overclock, should be fine.

Also what thermaltake PSU is that, they make many crappy ones.

1) Here is a list of Mobo's in the b350 line that have good reviews

https://www.techspot.com/bestof/amd-b350-motherboards/

2) I'd try to go with 16gb if you're gaming

3) Yes

4) Windows if you plan on using any commercial software, OSX if you want to build a hackintosh, Unix of whatever flavor if you don't want to give in to the man

5) Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes... yes

6) Bios first, then windows. After that initial install, you cant keep updating the bios regularly without reinstalling windows

7) Get the pc up and running. then Overclock it.

Overclocking does not affect warranty.

Next time post the parts list before you order the parts.  I'm not sure I would have recommended anything on that list except maybe the CPU...even that would be use case dependant.

Good luck.

Why change it?

It's ancient, from 2012.

You could get better for same price, probably.

Ryzen CPUs are unlocked and are safe to OC. That doesn't void the warranty. Anyways if the parts are on their way its hard to change things.

For software, just grab:

1- chipset drivers

2- Sound drivers

3- Nvidia drivers

4- Any other drivers/software under your Mobo's download website (not the VGA one as you don't have an APU)

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-B350M-E/HelpDesk_Download/

I'd do Chipset first, then everything else

if the damage is literally a "fried" chip then yes OCing it with 3 volts will void your warranty. But if done gently and within reason you'll be ok
