@herman mcpootis I had expected this to be the case.  Is there any other CrossFireX config that may be sutable for my current PSU that is better than a 970?

none that would be worthwhile, just get a better single gpu when you can.

Hello, this is my first post so I wish to apologise if I have wronged somewhere (I have no idea what I'm doing).

I currently have in my system:

  • An Asus P8P67-M PRO motherboard
  • An Intel Core i5-2500K O.C.'d to 4.5GHz
  • A GTX 970 O.C.'d with MSI Afterburner but not by much
  • And A Corsair CX600M PSU

The question I have is:  is it worth, without (if possible) upgrading any other parts, setting up two AMD R9 290X's in CrossFireX for better performance in games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and PUBG, or should I just stick to what I've got for another few years until better hardware is available?

Any answers and advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

James.

a CX600 isn't gonna provide enough power or a pair of 290Xs, get a gtx 980ti or gtx 1070/ti/1080 instead.

What monitor do you currently have? I would honestly upgrade than CPU first rather than your GPU and would recommend that you always avoid crossfire or sli for gaming in general. A single card options is usually the better choice.
