Trying to overclock 1800x w/ noctua u12 on taichi x370

I have a 1800x and noctua u12 with a asrock taichi x370 mobo and I can't seem to get the processor to overclock in the bios. The best luck I've had is using ryzen master but I hate having to keep re-opening it. Also, at completely stock the cpu doesn't seem to boost beyond 3.7 GHz. Any help? thanks

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

GPU: ASUS Strix Radeon RX Vega 56 OC

with the u12 max you'll go is 3.9ghz but at high temps (60-70C constant).

I have the exact same config (1800x/u12/x370) and don't have any issues overclocking it? Did you choose manual overclock and put your own voltage?

well i can get 4.0 @ 1.4v on ryzen master semi-stable but you're right temps are kind of high. I have tried manual in bios but it always fails to boot.

4.0 at 1.4V? was the limit 1.35 or 1.45V?  I feel that either way it's too high, I can do 3.9ghz at 1.25V. Did you update the bios of the mobo?

usually the 1800x should be a good overclocker but you may just be the really unlucky dude that got the worst 1800x of the lot (silicon lottery)
