Hi all,

I have recently built a new computer and all of the programs i have running have a very large lag spike when i open Chrome or any other application, what is this caused by? Also there is small micro lags even when playing a game without opening any other application. Before building the new computer there was never any problems like this to be seen. We have downloaded all the necessary drivers for the new hardware (Graphics card, CPU, motherboard, hard drive) and removed the old ones from the device manager. The boot drive didn't change if this has anything to do with it, (SSD)  running Windows 10 home edition. We have also tried 32gb of tested ram in a different system with still no change to performance.

Old Hardware:

Motherboard: Asus Z170 Pro gaming

Processor: I7-6700k (Air Cooled)

Graphics card: GTX 1070

Ram: 16gb DDR4 2400mhz

Power Supply: 750 Watt

New Hardware:

Motherboard: asrock x399 taichi

Processor: AMD Threadripper 1950x (Water cooled)

Graphics Card: GTX 1080 ti Hybrid

Ram: 32gb DDR4 3200mhz

Power Supply: 1250 Watt

 Thanks in advance xD

Maybe the power mode is set to “Save power” it has happened to me and that’s how I fixed it

It sounds like it is related to the drive. Might be worth formatting it and starting afresh.

Have you run CCleaner etc yet?

Have not tried running CCleaner yet. Trying it now.

The power mode is not set to save power, it is set to performance mode.
