Next upgrade SSD? Biggest bottleneck hdd?

Teemo4Life

I have

gtx 970

10gb ram

1tb hdd

Is an ssd really worth it and makes everything so much faster? It cost $60 AUD for 120gb ssd

I'd get an SSD. My system (which is quite old) runs really nicely with an SSD.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Yes. A lot!.

Never ever heard of someone complaining about having an SSD. Just like having a 144Hz monitor. Once you get used to one, you can't go back.

I even installed a 240GB SSD in my parents notebook (pentium dual core), they loved it.

You simply quit waiting for thing to open or react.

Definitely go SSD for the OS Partition!!!

It will speed up tons of things. Large files, apps you do not need often or just games should go to HDD.

But when doing windows Update, you will not notice it on SSD. Your PC shuts down in secounds - like there is no Update going on! Your whole system will get faster a lot. IF (!) you get your RAM full for any reason, the SSD will be much better for the Pagefile and system remains usable. Pagefile on HDD makes your PC as slow as Windows 95 pc from last century.

Also it speeds up loading of ALL apps. All apps will load at least some files from the windows directory - that will speed up as well. Like DirectX DLLs or runtime environments. Apps like firefox, you use often, should also be on SSD. I bought a Crucial SSD 1TB new for 255€ (~~280$???). It is even big enought, to run a lot of games on it. For streaming+recording this is also good. Game on SSD and record to another drive. (I know of many people, who have just 1 drive, recording and gaming on 1 drive is sh*t)

SSD is worth it. Find a cheap one, BUT (!!!) ONLY EVER BUY BRAND! On storage media, no name hardware is crap for almost everything! Storage is expensive - if it is cheap and has no brand... just think about it.
