They're ok processors, but unless you can get the Xeon and a compatible motherboard for under $200, I wouldn't do it. Also, I'm not aware of any decently priced 1366 boards. You're at the mercy of the used market on that one.

Anything more than $200, then I would recommend either a Ryzen 5 1600 or an i3-8350k.

When I was reading some forums about the Intel Xeon for gaming, I changed my mind.

I am now going for a Intel Core i5-8400, a GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2H and Mushkin 8 GB DDR4-2133.

This is not really expensive, and it is nice that this cpu uses the 1151 socket so I can always upgrade to a i7.

Thanks for your time and helping.

Have a nice day.

Sounds like a solid move. My only suggestion would be to aim for faster RAM. DDR4 2666 and DDR4 3000 should cost about the same as DDR4 2133, and can potentially offer better performance depending on the games you play.

For example, this 3000MHz module is only $88

Also, you're quite welcome. Good luck with the new build!

Thanks for the tip, I'm only not a big fan of buying things on American sites like Newegg (I'm Dutch btw :D). So I will take a look on Dutch sites to see if the prices of faster ram is mostly equal to lower speed ram modules.

So I checked a Dutch computer site and the prices of 2133Mhz ram is much lower then 3000Mhz ram.

So I think I will stick with 2133Mhz ram, and try to overclock it a little bit.

because Intel wants it i guess. Still you can't, 8th gen CPU's only work on Z370 motherboards.

I just still don't understand why the motherboard and cpu both have a intel 1151 socket and can't be paired together?

(These photo's are just to show that on the site they are listed as 1151 socket.)

the socket is not the only thing that determines compatibility. The official reason is changes they made because of the extra cores on the new cpus.

Okay, so the motherboard does not support the processor. Can you give me a compatible motherboard for the processor that is not very expensive (as cheap as possible). I would really appreciate it.

best to make another topic and ask, i'm really not up to the best z370 motherboards. You can also consider waiting for the cheaper B370 and H360 motherboards to launch, still i guess there is no date set.

Ah! I was unaware, sorry xD

As far as the best motherboard for you, any Z370 board should work. As long as it offers enough SATA ports and PCIE slots for your use, you should be ok.

No worries.

I found a cheap Z370P motherboard, which I'm gonna buy if I have a little bit more money.

Thanks for all the help, and have a nice day.

Greatings,
