gtx 970 artifacts

so i got myself a second hand gtx 970 for a good price and the seller told me that its fine but i shouldn't upgrade to the latest drivers. the 970 i got is the EVGA SSC ACX 2.0

 

when i installed it at home and installed the drivers there were red artifacting everywhere on the monitor and won't let me go past the windows boot screen (before the login menu it just blue screens and the artifacting is still there) so i uninstalled the drivers and asked what version of drivers he was using when he was using it. when i installed the specified drivers the device shows up in device manager but is stopped said by device manager but there are still artifacting. the weird thing is when the 970 is only using basic display drivers the artifacting doesn't show up but what good is a 970 like that, right? 

 

so how would i be able to fix this problem?

 

the seller said he was running the 344.65 drivers on windows 7(i'm using windows 10 btw)

 

Edit: one thing I noticed is whenever I try to install drivers it goes up to the point where it says installs graphics drivers. Normally during this point, the monitor will turn off then turn on again but mine just turns off and hangs in the middle of it.

how do i do that? becuase basically installing this 970 on my pc isnt gonna work unless i can do it with only basic drivers

could try a BIOS flash on the card as well to see if that could resolve it.

Hmm that's a problem because I believe that MSI Afterburner can't work without a driver, or can it? If it can't then you'll only be able to do this through flashing it to custom bios with lower clocks which I have no idea how to do. Try installing MSI Afterburner to see if it works...

i already have msi afterburner and it just wouldn't show up there so it doesnt work without any drivers

Try installing some really old driver if you can find them to download

Maybe, but if the seller is saying the card worked just fine in his system.. it could be an issue between Win 7 and Win 10. What is the exact sku of your GPU.

I'm not sure where to find it.. can it found on printed on the card? i can't install this card to find out, i think

Yes, it should be on one of the stickers on the back side of the card.

i cant find anything like that anywhere on the card.. i'll try to put the 970 in my pc with basic drivers and see if it will show up on gpu-z

this is everything that is shown on gpu-z and i can't find anything else printed on the card itself
