Upgrading my rig this weekend. Have everything I need bar the CPU. Would I be able to "test" the mobo for power if I connect the 24p and 8p?

If I can what would I expect to see, would fans spin? Mobo LED's light up?

Is there a chance I could damage my board by doing this?

Cpu : AMD Ryzen 3 1200 (3.8Ghz), Motherboard : Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 - RAM : 8GB DDR4 2933 Team (Vulkan) memory, GPU : MSI GTX 980 4GB Case : Antec P50, Storage : 120GB Samsung SSD, 3TB WD Blue, PSU : 530w Thermaltake SPS-530MPC, Cooling : Artic freezer Pro 7, OS : Windows 10.

Sorry, I meant to say I understand that it won't post, I mean it more along the line would I at least be able to see if the board gets powered?

i would expect the LED error code to light up, you may get some fans, briefly, tbh I've never tried

I would just wait for the new CPU since you're Upgrading and not bench-testing a problem PC or buying a suspicious motherboard.  What's the hurry, is your motherboard warranty about to be up or did you buy it off craigslist or ebay?

Nah, if I am honest. I am just super super impatient, and wanted to do as much as I could before it gets here.

Theres no danger here. Motherboards are designed with this in mind. No risk to the board with a power-up.

Just as the others said, it wont post at all so you are very limited with what you can test and or see.
