intel CPU inquiries

So I am currently in the process of thinking up my first gaming PC.

As there are sooooo many variables to consider when choosing parts I've opted to seek aid from the vast tech community

 

I have my eye on two CPU's at the moment, both are at a relatively cheap price but I am not sure which one is better for the price it is listed at.

I feel like I would probably want to overclock.. aaand I'm not sure i know the answer, I'm still just getting into this whole world

Don't get the i3, even when you overclock it's stupid, if you want to save the money get a regular one. In opinion the 8350k isn't worth it's money. If you just have to overclock you can do it...if you just feel the need to then you know what to do...I still wouldn't

So if my budget was say 250$ and i was looking for a CPU that was capable of productivity (video editing w/sony vegas) and gaming, what would you recommend?

I would go for the i5 8400, it also gives you two cores more and i just see no reason on the i3. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/sHgXHh
