Has anyone gamed with bo gpu and just an 8700k? Well I just dod and im at a solid 1080p 60fps on a custom medium setting. I was over clocked at 5.2 but dialed it back to stock and it still runs fine. What do you guys think? Still saving for my gpu..

I have gamed on no dGPU, but that was with an A6-5400K. Not a very capable chip, even at 4.4Ghz. A lot of other people have done it with better CPUs and iGPUs though.

It largely depends on what games you are trying to play and what you want to play them at. You paid a pretty penny for an 8700k + mobo + DDR4. A discrete GPU will be able to play a more diverse range of games and at much higher settings (as long as the GPU isn't junk).

Basically any GPU will beat an iGPU for gaming.  I'd recommend grabbing something used since new prices are insane right now.  Maybe a GTX 960 or GTX 970 depending on what is available, it looks like on Ebay a GTX 960 is about $150 US and is over 300% faster than the iGPU in the 8700K.

No need to OC the CPU yet, the iGPU is always the bottleneck.

What game are we talking about for this 1080p 60fps?

I can't imagine it being anything more demanding than CS:GO lol.

My old A8-7650K used to run at 5Ghz.. but was still c**p for gaming with :P

Before i got my 480, it did used to get me 20-30FPS on GTA V and 60+ on CSGO with a mix of low/med 1080p settings though, so couldn't complain about that :P

I played overwatch at a smoothish 1080p 50ish fps 60hz.

720p 60fps 60hz.

The cpu hit about 5.2 and over all was slowed by the subpar intel graphics lol. Still better overwatch than the xbox one s. In the market for a gpu.
