Hi,

So the problem I am having is that my socket LGA1366 motherboard doesnt seem to get past POST. It does not beep at all. It does not show any output on a monitor even though the gpu is connected properly. If I connect it to a hard drive the HDD makes shuffle sounds as if the motherboard is searching for an operating system after a couple of seconds. The system also powers on faster if a ram slot is empty.

Specs:

Zalman 500w psu

Intel Xeon L5640 with a stock Intel cooler

Radeon HD 5450

1TB hard drive

Intel x58 chipset motherboard

If your board has onboard video, try booting without the 5450. If you try to start the system with no memory, it's never going to post

I have put the ram stick back in. The board does not have onboard video, so taking tge HD 5450 out wont work. I have another video card lying around but my only monitor has a vga connection while the other card has a dvi and hdmi connections only so I might have to try another monitor.

The system still has a 3-sec delay between pressing the power button and powering on. And it beeps once after the system powers on.

Another weird thing is that holding down the power or reset button does not shut the system down. Could that be a problem related to the front panel connectors?

A single beep is a good sign. Most motherboard vendors make a single beep as the code for a successful POST. How long do you usually hold the power button for a force shutdown?

In Windows, you can configure it to shut the system down upon pressing the power button when Windows is booted. But by default, pressing the power button is just putting the machine to hibernate.

I am talking about the power beep, not the POST beep. Instead of the post beep I can hear shuffling in the hard drive.

The hard drive in question does not have an operating system on it, so Windows settings do not play a role in this.

I held the power button for longer than 10 seconds, nothing happens. same for the reset button.
