Powerline adapter vs. wifi

It depends entirely on your home's electrical engineering.  It beats wifi in terms of stability, and not getting signal interrupted (which is good for gaming and browsing).  For downloading, there's no guarentee the speeds will be any better.

 

In my case, I wish I bought a PCIE wifi card instead.

generally speaking with powerline, you want to make sure the two adapters are connected on a single electrical group in your house to ensure the best stability. 

it does work if you connect two different groups tough, but the signal will have to travel a lot further and the signal has te fight a lot more interferences.

i have this, 2 seperate fuseboards in my house (extended house) and powerline between them is super-weak. as long as youre on the same circuit it's fine tho.

 

between my NVIDIA shield and router i have 1 outside wall, 1 inside wall and about 5m distance. 2.4+5ghz both give good signals and good speeds but sometimes there is intermittent packet loss. my powerline on the same circuit has a higher ping (20+ vs 5+) but is rock solid stable and performs much better despite the shield moaning about the latency
