Transferring programmes

Good evening everyone, I'm getting an ssd and I'm going to use data migration software to move my so to the ssd, but I have too many documents and programmes on it and it's all 400 gb but my ssd is only 120 gb, is there any way to move my programmes to my hdds and run them from the hdd? Thanks

Delete all of the stuff you don't need off of your HDD, then clone it over.

No there is not, the program you are using will probably do a sector by sector clone of your HDD > SDD but like you said above you will require a 400gb+ SSD to do this. Also its a bad idea as the partitions wont align correctly for the SSD. The best thing to do is reinstall windows on the SSD let the windows installer optimize for SSD's and with a backup of your data move that over.

 

Programs cannot be transferred unless its a sector by sector clone of the HDD.

Why not reinstall the OS? Installing on an SSD is lightning quick anyways.

Well, yeah. Programs will need to be reinstalled. Documents and random stuff can be copied over after the install.

 

That's my preference. If I was installing a new OS drive, I would do a fresh OS install, kill two birds with one stone.
