So basically I have 2 low profile GPUs and I want to test them in a form factor I have to see how they run.

Problem is I don't have the low profile brackets.

I'm thinking of removing one of the brackets and using pliers and a Dremel to make one.

But before I go through the trouble I want to run tests, would it be safe to just use a zip tie to hold the gpu in place without a bracket?

Just put the computer horizontally, and you won't even need a zip tie.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Since you didn't say what GPU you need the brackets for:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=-1&IsNodeId=1&Description=low profile bracket&bop=And&Page=2&PageSize=36&order=PRICE

Take a look and find what you need.
