R9 290x Matrix Platinum Buy or not .

So I found a R9 290x matrix platinum for 200 euros. It is a pretty good price for a 290x given the current prices of video cards.

The thing is I know from the past that asus cards had abysmal cooling before the latest cooler they put on the 480s and 1060s and the rest of the cards of that generation.

Can I overcome this ? Does anybody have any experience with that card ? Is it a thermal paste issue ? Or is it just a bad cooler ?

It's not really a cooler or thermal paste issue, the 290 and 390 ran pretty hot more or less as a way of life.

You could help improve temperatures by staying on top of maintenance(repasting, dust clearing, etc) and making sure it has enough airflow. Other than that and delidding the GPU(not recommended, but it has been done), there's not a whole lot to be done about it.

My Radeon HD 4850 runs really hot too haha, I don't know why Sapphire made it a single-slot card but it doesn't do the temperatures any favors...

The thing is the likes of MSI and sapphire cards run way cooler not even reaching 80 (From the research I've made). Asus Matrix Plat goes up in the 90's. There are sapphire cards for arround ~250.

the GPU on 2xx cards tends to be hot, you're going to mine with it? if you're just going to play go for it you can replace the paste with arctic silver 5 or mx-4
