Hello. I've been looking for a laptop for college (and a bit of gaming) and I can't decide which model should I get. Mainly because I don't know If i'm ok with the i5-7300hq, or if it would be better to get the i7-7700hq. I will be using this laptop mostly for 3d modeling on Blender and also Unity/Unreal Engine. Is it worth getting the i7 or am I ok with the i5? I have a more powerfull desktop that will do long renders in case I need. The laptop would be only used in classes and for small render (I think).

Thanks in advance.

The i7 will definitely give you better performance over an i5 for your usage case.

As mentioned above though, make sure it has a good GPU(1060+), an i7 and crappy gpu won't be much better than an i5 with a mid-high range gpu for your uses. Though not many manufacturers pair an i7 with a crappy GPU(1030-1050ti) :P

I have the Asus ROG Strix GL702-VM-GC-003T with an i5 6300HQ, GTX1060 (6GB) and 16GB of ram abd that munches through everything that I throw at it from Skyrim to 3D modelling and VR gaming. I personally would have liked the i7 version but money was an issue so I had to go for the lower spec but it does everything I want it to do with room to spare...

The laptops I have been seeing have a 1050 or 1050ti. I was hoping that would be enough when it comes to the GPU. So... like RKRiley said, if I go for a mid-range gpu like the 1050ti, I wont be feeling much diference if I pick the i5 instead of the i7?

The i7 version is still within budget. The thing is, I don't wanna pay for something that I wont use or don't need and Idk if the i7 for more 100€ (123$) is worth it. Tried to search for performance stats online from both CPU's but I haven't found one clear enough.
