bucket cooling

can we cool a desktop cpu by using a long copper pipe [not hollow pipe] flatten its ends and coil the middle of pipe and connect the ends to cpu using a custom cpu bracket and some thermal paste. After connecting the copper tube dipping it in a bucket of cold water.

Well if this isn't a joke then it depends on the lenght of the tube. Heat won't transfer as much if it doesn't have some sort of helping factor. So one end will stay hot while other will stay at the temperature of water.

A non hollow pipe of copper is a rod of copper. It would cool a CPU on its own, so the more you add to the other end of the copper to cool it the better it would cool but there are too many variables to determine weather your theory would work...that's why you should try it, document it and let us know how you got on!

Personally i think you need an awful lot of refinement from your basic concept because, in a nutshell, it sounds super crude. Consider how copper isn't enough without some kind of moving force be it air or water being forced across the copper.

Scrapyard wars :D

I don't think you can call this "scrapyard" wars anymore if GPU and RAM prices are through the roof:p

Best of luck to you though!

That would work but not very effectively, the copper rod would conduct heat away but not as efficiently or quickly as something like a heat pipe. From there if you added fins to increase the surface area  and dipped it into a water bath it would work until the water bath heat up excessively.
