So I found my PS2 Slim today in the attic and decided to hook it up. Unfortunately it cannot read any discs I put in it, and I assume it's probably a laser issue. What can I do to try and fix this?

Right now I put the disc in, it trys to read it and spins up then says the disc could not be read.

If the mechanism seems functional, try cleaning the lens? It's just a guess, but a quick one to try.

If you want to save some money, since it is a slim model Ps2, you can connect it to a network switch you have (or a PC) and soft-mod the Ps2 to load your legally obtained games from network storage. I've had a fat (SCPH-39004) Ps2 and had to resort to that, since my laser was getting wonky as well.
