Hey guys, not finding too much for this with google-fu

I've got a late 2012 MacBook Pro that has the firmware from somewhere around 2013 (Honestly it looks like Lion in Recovery Mode). I've got a drive just sitting here that's got an APFS image of High Sierra on it. It would really help if I could just Plug and play it, however Apple (like usual) isn't playing nice.

Is there a terminal command in OSX, or even in BSD (hey it might carry over) that'll update the firmware of the laptop, or at least connect it to the server to update the firmware? I know I can just do a HFS drive, but this will save us a shit ton of time in the future of refurbishing our old MacBooks.

Thanks
