What do i need to watch out when changing motherboard and cpu?

I'm thinking of changing motherboard and cpu but is there anything i need to look into with compatibility e.g. ram and gpu, and do i need to upgrade drivers before installing them?

GPU drivers aren't a worry.

RAM compatibility will be a problem if you're moving from DDR3 to DDR4.

What are your current specs?

Also be sure to check if your new motherboard has enough connectors for your current devices. e.g. Sata, USB headers, fan headers.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600, MB: Asus Crosshair VI Hero, RAM: Kingston 2×8GB, GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB, Storage: Samsung PM981 1TB

You might need to do a reinstallation of Windows. It's always recommended when moving from one motherboard to another.

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Yeah you should be good to go on upgrading. Make sure your USB headers will all work, although given your board is more recent that shouldn't be a problem.

A clean installation of Windows wouldn't hurt either, as long as you back up all your important data.
