Hi,

I have bought an older laptop which runs windows 8, I have somehow managed to corrupt my windows files and need to reset it. However my recovery partition is missing so I need a windows 8 .iso file or similar installer. All I have been able to find so far have been windows 8.1 installers which do not work for this purpose.

If someone knows of a safe download and links me to it, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know for sure but I thought 8.1 is a free upgrade for 8? Does the 8.1 install not work at all?

I think Microsoft has been trying there best to bury 8.

I didn't get around to upgrading the laptop to windows 8.1 before it broke. Using a windows 8.1 installer when it asks for an installation media just returns 'The media inserted is not valid'

Microsoft seem to be burying windows 8 so deep that they don't have the installer available anymore.

This site should be safe, it is part of a "data hording" community. I have downloaded a few things from there before without any issues. Although it looks like it is getting hit very hard at the moment so it may take a few hours to download.

you probably want this one 'en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440" if you have the "home" version.

If you want to verify the file hasn't been tampered with you can check it with the hash

found here as well as instructions on how to do that.
