Hi, I made a post about this earlier but it seem to had died, so I made a new one here.

I have a 7700k and a GTX 1070. I play on Epic/Max settings in Overwatch and I get about 170 - 200 fps in the spawn room e.c.t; but when big fights come my fps plummets to 120 - 130 and CPU usage is only at 60 and gpu only at 90. This is a issue because I am playing on a 144hz monitor.

This guy here has the same/near to same specs as me and gets the fps I want:

Temps are not a issue @ 65c max

I have tried playing at epic settings but it is still the same only GPU usage goes down to 60

Only one thing I have thought of is 1x8 2400mhz memory can't keep up?

I think there must be something wrong here because I don't think a i7 should be bottle-necking this game!

Please help!

Full Specs:

7700k @ 5ghz

GTX 1070 @ 2ghz

Kraken x62 AIO

z270f asus strix

250gb samsung 850evo ssd

wd blue 1tb

evga supernova 650w g2

1x8gb ddr4 @2400mhz

Thanks in advance

It is at 100 alright as I said, GPU is at 60 on ultra and GPU handles render scale

No I mean in the settings of the game.  Just making sure, I know you've been trying to figure this out for a couple days now...

Yes, it is on 100. What I really want to know is this a RAM issue?? Do I need dual channel? I have 1x8 at 2400mhz

Check in task manager how much RAM is being used by Overwatch.

And try reinstalling Windows, drivers (with DDU).

6Gb so I don't think ram capacity is the issue, it is speed.

I have tried reinstalling windows

If it's the only difference between your system and the systems you see getting the numbers you want, then it could be.

It's probably single channel RAM

Well... Return it or enjoy your upgrade :D

i7 is going to last you longer than i5.

Your CPU 60% and GPU 90% usage is what u want in games.

Running one ram stick might be causing issues since it surely isnt your CPU and GPU.

RAM speed is fine, i only have 1600mhz ddr3 and my fps is steady ( high/very high settings).

Have u tried different graphics settings ?

Not sure what 2400 DDR4 you have but it looks like it's under $100 to add another for dual channel if you decide to go that route.

Ask a friend to just test it out with his ram sticks or gamble and do hardware swap on reddit or craigslist (your 1x8 for someones 2x4).

or just order ram on amazon, test it for a day and return it the next day. U will need the money to purchase though.

I'm sure somebody will want to trade their 2x4 like thony said, try doing the swap or sell something, not sure if it was cheaper to buy the 1x8 but if I remember correctly, back in the xp days you needed 2 sticks of ram.... But what do I know, I was 4 years old and pirating halo combat evolved on a Saturday morning back then... True story

It's fine, I overclocked my RAM to 2800mhz and there is like +40 fps. So I will wait for ram prices to decrease

Never really heard of that much of a boost just by overclocking the ram but ok..... What ever works for you

He is bandwidth bottlenecked running single channel on a single DDR4-2400 8GB stick on a usually CPU bottlenecked game. Ofc he is seeing huge gains from overclocking it :)
